Evidence that VHA Global is taking a truly international outlook when establishing the culture at the new Sharjah Teaching Hospital was provided recently by the signing of an agreement with the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) to “accredit” the new hospital. Sharjah Teaching Hospital will provide educational services and therapeutic health to the community of the Emirate of Sharjah in particular and the United Arab Emirates in general, in accordance with prevailing international quality standards. The hospital will also provide training services to medical students at the University of Sharjah. His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, Supreme President of the University of Sharjah signed the Agreement on 31st January 2008. Mr. Martin Beaumont, CCHSA Director, International, in the presence of His Excellency Hamid Al Qatami, UAE’s Health Minister, signed on behalf of CCHSA. The Agreement ensures the highest level of international quality in treatment services, health and education for the hospital. Prof. Stan Capp, VHA Global’s Chief Executive Officer at the hospital, spoke at the signing ceremony. Prof. Capp stated that the combination of a distinguished hospital team and the CCHSA team would be very beneficial for the quality of health services delivered by the hospital, ensuring treatment at the highest possible level of quality in equipment, doctors, technicians and nurses, in addition to its laboratories and its treatment and management systems. He pointed out that VHA Global had taken into account the educational role the hospital was to play and drew attention to the teaching and educational theatres to be established in the hospital. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qassimi, Director of the Sharjah Health Department and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Assistant, Dr. Amin Amiri Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Assistant chairman of the Al Qasimi Hospital and Dr. Amr Abdul Hamid, Special Advisor of H.H. Ruler of Sharjah for Higher Education, Dr Ismail bin Mohammed Al Bishri, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, members of the Canadian Embassy and consulate in the U.A.E. and deans of medical colleges and a number of officials at the Ministry of Health and Al Qassimi Hospital were also at the ceremony. This impressive line up is indicative of the high level of interest in “what the Australians are doing” at Sharjah Teaching Hospital.
